It’s Here! Welcome to July 2015!

This month sees the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which we have been bringing you lead-up articles on all spring. Well, the lead-up is over; the anniversary itself is now just 25 days away (July 26) and agencies & individuals across the nation are celebrating the landmark legislation that has led to the world becoming more and more accessible as each day passes. Here’s what the ADA National Network has linked for this month:

We will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act on Wednesday, July 22nd with an Open House, and you’re invited! Join us at our office from 1pm until 3pm for an array of afternoon desserts. 242 N 5th Avenue, Rome GA 30165. We will have desserts to fit many dietary needs, also. New York Celebrates ADA 25

In honor of the 25th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act, New York’s Mayor de Blasio is declaring July as “Disability Pride Month” and hosting a parade to commemorate the landmark legislation. Visit the New York Daily News for more info.


Local Athlete Nominated for ESPY Award

Krige Schabort, a two-time Paralympic medalist in the wheelchair-class marathon and the reigning International Triathlon Union triathlon world champion and NW Georgia resident, is nominated for the second time for an ESPY Award, presented by ESPN. He is nominated in the Best Male Athlete with a Disability category, and you can vote for him here.  Our own Rome News-Tribune has an article on Mr. Schabort and his athletic prowess.
