Fall 2020 Newsletter

Fall 2020

“We’re still standing, better than we ever did!”

Now that you’ve got that Elton John song stuck in your head, keep reading to find out what’s been going on and what’s ahead for NWGA Center for Independent Living!

The world has seen quite a lot of change in the last six months, and as we enter Autumn, those changes are likely here to stay for a bit longer. The staff at NWGA CIL have been able to adapt to these changes, and we are happy to report that we continue to serve the disability community in NW Georgia just as fully as before! We know very well that one trait the disability community has is our ability to adapt to new situations—and these six months have shown that truer than ever. One major adaption we have made is the use of virtual meeting software, such as Zoom.

Zoom has in many ways leveled the playing field for people with disabilities to have the ability to attend meetings without the worry of how to access transportation. The staff at NWGA CIL have compiled a list of etiquette suggestions that may be helpful while using various apps such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams meetings. You can find this list on our website at www.nwgacil.org.

You’re Invited to Our

Pedestrian Safety Town Hall

Thursday, October 22nd       2pm-3pm

This event is a chance for your voice to be heard! Join us over Zoom virtual meetings (or by phone for audio only) and tell us about your experiences as a pedestrian, a public transit user, or even as a driver. Your feedback will help us understand the needs of the disability community as pedestrians. These events help us in our continued service of systems advocacy, and we can’t do this without you!

Contact Christina Holtzclaw at choltzclaw@nwgacil.org or at 628-246-1825 for the meeting link.
